News Death Notice
MARTIN, Steve Arnold age 60, of Silver City, New Mexico, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Kindred Health Care in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Steve graduated from Morehead High School in Morehead, Kentucky and then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Western Kentucky University and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He was employed as an Environmentalist at the Butler County Health Department, then as an Environmentalist for the Department of Interior. He had inspected strip mines in Arizona, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Montana. Preceding him in death were his mother, Virginia Martin; his paternal grandparents, Orville, Sr. and Myrtle Martin; and his maternal grandparents, Reynold and Esther Ellington. He is survived by his father and step mother, Orville and Juanita J. Martin; one sister, Gail Martin; one brother, Scott Martin; one step brother, James Clay; his uncle, Cecil and Lucille Harden; his aunt, Margena Harden; and many other extended family. There will be a time of greeting for family and friends on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Woodside Cemetery Chapel, followed by services at the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Collins officiating. Military services will be performed by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. Inurnment in the Indoor Columbarium at Woodside Cemetery, Middletown, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yankee Road First Church of God, 3029 Yankee Road, Middletown, Ohio 45044. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.

I always admired the moral vigor and linguistic richness of General Stuck's comments on Balloon Juice. His love for nature and especially for Charlie were deeply inspiring. I miss him terribly.
