One of the reasons I watched the "GONG SHOW" was to watch Mr. Patton dance and remove the folks that got GONGED. It was so nice to see him cut up and have a great time, I felt good that he got that wonderful opportunity. "GENE GENE THE DANCING MACHINE" was so enjoyable I will never forget the laughter one gave my family back in the 70s. THANKS for all the GOOD TIMES...BLESSINGS and LOVE❤

To the Patton family, I knew your father thru his son Sydney, we played on the same little league baseball team in Altadena, California during the early 70's...
Mr. Patton was always involved in our community, contributing his time with the Little league baseball organization. He was kind and always made me smile.. Many people knew him as an entertainer but I was fortunate to know him personally, He will be missed..

March 18, 2015

It was quite shocking when I heard that
GeneGene had passed on.
Such a loss.
He was such a nice, caring, man.
When my husband, Joe, passed away in 1996, Gene was there at the funeral.
He was a comforting rock.
His presence and words helped keep me together.
I don't know of anyone who doesn't smile,
and, laugh with happiness, when they hear his name mentioned.
He was really one of the good guys in the world.
Please accept my sincere condolences at your loss.

Eugene,
I only found out yesterday. I will always remember the work you did to turn young boys into men. Especially those who became part of the Wildcat Family. I know that you were far more than your stage presence. Comfort to your family.

I was in the 75th Rangers and running the Aid Station, went back to the barracks for lunch, and saw Gene tearing it up on the TV. Pandenonium!!! Guys throwing their arms in unison with Gene, dancing around, imitating Chucky Baby, just wild. Good times are hard to come by in the Rangers, but friday lunch was something to be had if possible. Gene, you gave us hope and spirit.. LETS ROCK!!!

March 15, 2015

Gene was a special person to me. My dad worked on the Johnny Carson show, and I used to occasionally go to work with him when I was in junior high. I had met Gene a few years earlier at NBC. My dad and I would sometimes hang around outside the studio at Floyd's shoeshine stand. One time Gene was sitting in one of Floyd's chairs, and I walked up and sat next to him and said, "Hi Dad." Of course, it was kinda funny, what with me being a blonde blue-eye small white kid. Gene replied with a "Hi Son" and every time after that we called each other Dad and Son. It was so much fun. He was such a great guy. I loved watching him on the Gong Show. He couldn't make it to my wedding 25 years ago, but sent a great handmade photo album as a gift. I think of him every time I see it. I will miss you, Dad. Love, Jon Ostberg

Dance on!!

ALL MY CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY! So saddened by Gene's passing. I met him at Burbank Studios during the taping of The Gong Show episode I was on. His name was just as popular as the show! He was so genuinely nice, and took me on a sightseeing tour around LA in his old Cadillac. Great down home conversations about family, music and the fun things in life! RIP to the "Dancing Machine, a wonderfully wonderful human being! Don't make 'em like that any more! SALUTE!
