Arleta Turnbull Obituary

ARLETA J. TURNBULL The Rev. Arleta J. Turnbull, 84, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord September 6, 2010, in her home in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Turnbull was born July 12, 1926, in Pasadena, Calif., the only child of the late Rev.\'s Delmer and Eva Alderman. She graduated from Poly H.S. in Riverside and attended Riverside Junior College for 2 years. She met and married Rev. Robert B. Turnbull August 19, 1944, and entered full-time pastoral ministry in Palm Springs, Calif. The couple\'s pastoral ministry continued for the next five years, at which time they entered foreign missionary service in Haiti, Dominican Republic and Christian education work in Latin America. This work continued for 30 years. The couple returned to Calif. where Mrs. Turnbull attended Vanguard University in Costa Mesa and worked in the Dept. of Education for 2 years. She was ordained with the Assemblies of God in 1970 and served for five years as the Vice-President for the So. Calif. Assemblies of God Women\'s Ministries Dept. In 1978, the couple took a position with CBN and moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1980. Upon retirement from CBN after 12 yrs., the couple continued to minister in numerous state side and international venues. Mrs. Turnbull was fluent in French, Spanish and Haitian Creole. Through the years, she has been a gifted Bible teacher and writer, vocalist, pianist, organist, accordionist, artist and seamstress. Her family dearly loves her and will miss her. She is survived by a daughter, the Rev. Cheryl E. Vincent, three sons, Dr. Robert B. Turnbull, Richard D. Turnbull, BSEE, and the Rev. Stanley M. Turnbull, two daughters-in-law, Charlotte I. Turnbull, RN and the Rev. Cheryl Y. Turnbull; a son-in-law, Dr. Joel A. Vincent, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Gracie and Anya. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am, Friday, September 17, 2010 in the Yucaipa First Assembly Church by Pastor Joel Vincent and Stanley M. Turnbull. Burial will follow at Olivewood Memorial Park in Riverside. Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary are handling arrangements.

I know the Lord is delighting in Arleta's presence. I loved her and will miss her forever. Her unswerving faith makes her passing a little easier to bear. I wish you comfort in this most difficult time.
