1947-2012

Dorothy "Dottie" Gomez Whitt, 65, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Dottie was born on January 13, 1947 in Pensacola, FL. She was a graduate of Catholic High School class of 1965. She held several jobs while the love of her life, David F. Whitt, also a graduate of Catholic High School class of 1965, served in the United States Navy as a pilot and weapon systems project manager. She was a secretary with the State of Florida for several years and worked over 20 years as an Administrative Assistant with Virginia Power Company in northern Virginia. She is a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milton, FL.

Dottie is preceded in death by her son, Lance E. Whitt, and her father, Harry C. Gomez.

Survivors include her loving husband, CDR David F. Whitt, USN ret. of Pace, FL; daughter, Heather Whitt Delong of Stafford, VA; three grandsons, Nevin Fitzgerald, Riley Fitzgerald, and Parker Delong; her mother, Lola May Gomez; three brothers, William Gomez (Cathy), Harry C. "Buddy" Gomez, Jr. (Liz) and Michael Gomez; two sisters, Nancy Gomez Steele (Dane) and Debra Gomez; nine nieces and nephews, Nicholas Gomez (Amy), Shawn Steele, Rylan Burch, Brenna Stermer (Brian), Gregory Gomez, Kelli Gomez, Emma Gomez, Trenton Gomez, and Paige Gomez; and two great nieces, Brittany Steele and Kora Perkins; who all live in the Pensacola area.

Visitation will be held 6-7pm Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00pm Friday, July 27, 2012 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milton, FL with Msgr. Stephen Bosso celebrant. Burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you either offer a Roman Catholic Mass for the repose of Dottie's soul or make a contribution to a church of your choice.

David and Family, Dottie was only my friend for a few years but she certainly added to my life in those few years. I will always remember the time she rode in the red convertible and I almost could not get her to get back out. It was memorable.
