Joseph Taylor Obituary

Joseph A. Taylor VIRGINIA BEACH - Joseph A. Taylor passed away June 28, 2011. A native of Norfolk, who graduated from Granby High School in 1965, Joe was an Army veteran, and was employed by Sears and Montgomery Ward before finding his true place at the Princess Anne Station Post Office in 1984 until the present. He was the happiest mailman you would ever want to meet, singing and joking his way through the day, a truly special person who left his family and friends better for being here. His much-loved friend and wife of more than 38 years, Shirley Gadrow Taylor, survives Joe. He is also survived by brothers, James E. Taylor of Virginia Beach, Raymond T. Taylor of Norfolk; his sisters, Margaret Shikitino of New Jersey and Mary Creslein (William) of Florida; sisters-in-law, Jenette Taylor of Michigan and Bernice Taylor of Chesapeake, Roberta Gadrow Murray (Michael) and DeeDee Rockefeller of Virginia Beach; and brother-in-law, Robert E. Gadrow Jr. of York County. In addition to the immediate family, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews who will always remember Uncle Joe with a smile on his face and a song on his lips. Brothers Robert W. Taylor and Charles W.Taylor and Sister Nellie Staton predeceased Joe. Please join us and share your memories of Joe at his memorial service on July 5, at 7 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home at 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, at the service being conducted by Father Cristiano Brito of St Gregory's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SEVA Foodbank at 800 Tidewater Dr. Norfolk, VA 23504 in Joe's memory. You may also offer your condolences to the family www.altmeyer.com.

Shirley
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Please know that you are in my prayers. Joe was a great man and your true complement in every way.

Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote, “Brief is life, but love is long”.
We will long remember Joe in our hearts and minds!

We will all miss Joe dearly. So very sorry for your loss. It was a sincere pleasure to work along side Joe at the Post Office. Upon request, he would always sing my favorite song and we would laugh wholeheartedly. What a wonderful man!
