Louise M. Rovner NORFOLK - Louise M. Rovner peacefully passed away April 1, 2010 at Harbor's Edge in Norfolk. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1913, she earned her B.S. in mathematics from Douglass College of Rutgers University in 1934 and a M.A. in foreign affairs from George Washington University in 1950. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Douglass and to Pi Gamma Mu at George Washington University. Miss Rovner joined the U.S. Tariff Commission (now the U.S. International Trade Commission) in 1936 and retired in 1974 as a deputy director of investigation. She was the author of a major portion of more than a score of important reports on a variety of products which were presented to the president of the United States and to Congress. She is survived by her nephews, Philip Rovner and his wife Joanne Batson of Norfolk, Jeffrey Rovner and his wife Jean of Greenville, S.C., and Rebecca Rovner, widow of David Rovner of Greenville, S.C.; and a host of first, second and third cousins from her extended family who cared for her and loved her and so learned about world affairs through her eyes with her early visits to the USSR, China, many European countries and throughout the United States on behalf of the federal government. And a special thanks to Leslie Van Horn, Jennifer and Bob Smith and to her many friends at Harbors Edge. She was a true woman's pioneer and a highly respected professional. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at Harbors Edge, One Colley Ave., Norfolk, officiated by Rabbi Rosalin Mandelberg, Ohef Sholom Temple. Memorials are requested to be sent to Jewish Family Services, 260 Grayson Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
