Mary C. White BELVIDERE - Mary Elizabeth Chappell White, 104, of the 1500 block of Belvidere Road, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2010 in her home. A lifelong resident of Perquimans County, she was the widow of Edwin Saunders White and the daughter of the late Edward Lyndon and Mary Elizabeth Lane Chappell. She retired after 30 years of teaching, having taught three years in Chowan County, eight years at Belvidere Academy and 19 years at Perquimans County Central Grammar School. She was a member of Piney Woods Friends Meeting where she taught the Primary Sunday School class for many years, was pianist and later organist on the first pump organ. Mrs. White was active in the Bertha White Missionary Society. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Ann Elizabeth White Felton and Al of Suffolk; a son and his wife, Glenn Edwin White and Louise of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Attie Price of Crisville, Md.; five grandchildren, Angie, Nancy, Christie, Mary and David; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ariel, Benji and Mason. She was predeceased by a great-great-grandchild, Jordan Cecil; sisters, Grace Ward and Sara Mae Byrum Bradford; and brothers, Howard, Edward, Hemby and Ray Chappell. The funeral will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Piney Woods Meeting with Pastor Frank Carter and Pastor Ken Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in Up River Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 1:30 until service time and again following the committal.
