I knew Bob from photo class. He took photos of his cousin at Blackstone where he often visited and later inherited the farm.
We both became photographers. I just now found out he died and am shocked. Certainly know he had a life he chose and in a time when
the world rewarded the eye of a photographer with a good life.

We fondly remember Bob driving his latest refurbished Ford Model A around the neighborhood, he was so proud, and we will never forget his smile. We miss him throwing a ball for Blackstone to catch -

From Princess Anne County to Bayside High School, From the Beach at 81 St. to Harbour Fest! Bob had a dozen pictures and a short story (sometimes a long one) to go with it. I always enjoyed his Parade Pictures. It was hard to get a word in when we started talking about our antique car projects. The Tidewater area has lost a good man , and I a life long good friend! Now take some really big pictures in the sky!

To his cycling friends, Bob was art on wheels. His restored pea-green bike with stay forever etched in my mind. It blinded early morning OV motorists and no doubt saved us from many unguided missiles. And Bob's uncanny knack at finding potholes when in the lead quelled my innate desire to challenge him.
I will miss your smile and love of life, my friend.
God bless and keep you.

Bob was my good friend for 25 years and always had my back whatever I was doing, be it a book or just life itself. We were planning - finally - to get serious about a book we'd long wanted to do together. Maybe I'll just have to find a way to do it anyway to honor our friendship, Bob. What a great photographer, friend and human being you were; Blackstone is testament to that compassion for all living things that you demonstrated each day and you should know there was no shortage of those of us who'd have lined up to take care of him in your absence. May you rest easy now and know that the greatest honor a man can have is reflected in the depth and quality of his friends - and you had scores and going forward we will all miss you deeply. So long my dear friend.

Bob,
We first met when you approached me in a restaurant and wanted to photograph my hands. I thought, "That's odd" but I did it. I'm looking at that photo from many years ago in my office as I type. RIP. You brought smiles and joy to those whose lives you touched.

One does not have to look too deeply to find the good in a person who unselfishly saved a stray dog's life-- and turned that dog a major celebrity. Bob, himself, was a celebrated talent in so many areas. On behalf of the community of photographers, designers, art/creative directors, copywriters, marketing strategists and advertising professionals in Hampton Roads and beyond, I salute Bob Ander. My favorite photo shoot with Bob seems fitting to note at this time. It was a pro bono collaboration to help support the neighborhood organic foods co-op... another one of his passions. Godspeed, and condolences.

Bob, I remember fondly you shooting my daughter Marshall when she was less than 3 mons old with my husband, Fred, and myself -- She was making cooing noises and laying in the buff on your black bear skin rug. You were most concerned that she may wee wee on that special rug (me too) but you took a beautiful b/w image of the three of us and that has been hanging in our living room for almost 26 years. We had some laughs over that through the years and I had the pleasure of working w/ you on possibly the first Hampton Roads Magazine, among other advertising projects over the years. Seems like I just saw you a few months ago and we were talking about a new home project you had going - You'd made a deal you were most proud of - No surprise there!
I miss knowing you are on the planet, Bob. You will be remembered, by everyone you touched. ~ Love Janice and Fred Pittman
