Gary Cisco Obituary

Gary S. Cisco

Suffolk - Gary Shannon Cisco, Age 56, stood and walked thru the gates of heaven on October 28, 2013 and into the arms of our Lord. He passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family and his beloved dogs. He is predeceased by his parents, Shannon and Kathleen Cisco and brother "Joey".

He was born in Pike County, Kentucky and raised in the Suffolk area. He was a retired City of Suffolk employee whose career began as a firefighter until an unfortunate car accident in 1988. He continued his working knowledge of emergency response to become a recognized 911 emergency dispatcher. His never-ending strength and determination to live his life to the fullest despite obstacles has been an inspiration to many. He always kept a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Gary enjoyed the great outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He was known to many for his love of firearms – a trait he inherited from his father.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife and high school sweetheart, Nancy; children, David of Richmond, and Bryan of Suffolk; brother, Gregory Jake Cisco of Zuni; in addition to numerous other family and friends.

A graveside service conducted by Tim Rawls will be Thursday at 11 AM October 31, 2013 at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery, 1549 Holland Road, Suffolk. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 PM in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 West Washington Street, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to Project Lifesaver, 300 Kings Fork Rd, Suffolk VA 23434 or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many wonderful healthcare professionals who have assisted Gary with life's challenges – especially Dr. J. Craig Merrell and Dr. Rahel Amare. The wonderful nurses are too many to list but would like to recognize Mary Dalton, Amy Salyers, and Lou Ellen Bass. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.

Nancy
I am so sorry for your loss. You and Gary were an inspiration to all who knew you. Thank you for the Witness you have been since his accident. May God wipe every tear and keep you safe. I am praying for God's long arms of compassion to embrace you and your family. Every tear shed is a tribute to your love one. "Blessed are they mourn for they shall be comforted" Matt. 5:4

Nancy,

My prayers are with you and your family as it has been a long journey for Gary but the opening line of him "standing and walking into the arms of GOD" is so comforting to hear. I have told the story many times about the first time I met Gary discussing designing your home and what he needed. I was nervous but him reasured me and encouraged me through the process. May you be blessed with your memories and look forward to the day you will reunite with him.

Nancy, anytime I see Gary's name or when I saw either of you around town..I would remember how you and Gary together fought your way out of a tough situation and became such an inspiration to the community. You all never gave up and had many more years together to raise your family. I always felt blessed to know Gary and observe his strength. I know your family is sad but also rejoicing in the many blessings you have had together. Praying for all of you.

Nancy, So sorry to hear of Gary's passing. When we worked together at the Fire Dept. he had plenty of jokes & laughs for all of us. Know that you are in my thoughts & prayers.
