CASTLETON - Robert L. Rankin, 84, of Castleton passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at home.
Born Sept. 11, 1928, to Charles and Mammie Rankin, he married Esther M. Parrott on April 2, 1955, in Bradford. She died Nov. 12, 2010.
Surviving are two sons, Alan (Roxy) Champion of Wyoming and Gary (Sandra) Champion of Chillicothe; six grandchildren, Kristi (Dan) Davis of Washington, Jill (John) Weck of Arlington Heights, Matt Champion of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Cara (Chris) Donahoe of Burlington, Iowa, Amber (Greg) Thomas of Mapleton and Brad Champion of Peoria; eight great-grandchildren, Madison and Cameron Davis, Aiden, Conner and Gavin Weck and Taylor, Austin and Jackson Donahoe; and a brother, James Rankin of Kewanee.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps and U.S. Navy.
Robert worked for C.T. Rees Elevator and for Jim Colgan in construction, was a mechanic and retired from Stark County Farm Service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bradford and a member and trustee of the Penn Township board and also of Bradford American Legion Post 445.
Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in the First Baptist Church of Bradford at 10 a.m., with Pastor Bill Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Cemetery, Edelstein, with military rites accorded by Bradford American Legion Post 445. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Bradford.

I want to express my deepest and heart felt sympathy to Bob's family. When I was little Mammie & Charles lived in the house just a little ways behind where I lived on the Foust farmland. There is where my memory of Bob.
