Dorothy Kurtz Obituary

PEORIA - Dorothy D. Kurtz, 80, of Peoria passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Lutheran Hillside Village.

She was born in Aurora, Ill., the daughter of Harold and Mary Renwick Beamish on Nov. 28, 1927.

Dorothy graduated from West Aurora High School and William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. Following college, she lived in Seattle, Wash., and then moved to Illinois and married Edward H. Kurtz in Aurora on June 18, 1949.

He survives along with their three children, Craig (Judy) Kurtz of Versailles, Ky., Janet (Tim) Bertschy of Dunlap and Nancy (Tad) Kerr of Dixon. She also leaves behind her seven grandchildren.

Her parents and sister, Joyce Steinmetz, preceded her in death.

She lived in Aurora for 30 years, where she was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a member of the Junior Women's Club and volunteered at Copley Memorial Hospital.

In 1981, she and Ed moved to Gainesville, Ga., where she volunteered at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for 23 years and was a member of the Newcomers Club, Northeast Georgia Golf Association, the Phoenix Society, the Garden Club and Gainesville Methodist Church.

In 2004, they moved to Peoria, and she became a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village, 6901 N. Galena Road, Peoria, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. A reception and fellowship will follow the service.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation or a charity of your choice.

The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. of Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.

memories of Dorothy, she was a very classy wormen. and
always interesting to talk to. Our couples club is dwindling
rapidly.
