minier - Helen Marie Schmidgall, 93, died at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Hopedale Nursing Home.
She was born on June 28, 1917, in Little Mackinaw Township to Christian and Rose Messer Schmidgall. She married Benjamin G. Schmidgall on Aug. 6, 1961, in Morton. He died on June 5, 1986.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Edna Dubbelde; three brothers, Edgar, Walter and Jacob; three nieces; and four nephews.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be at the Assembly of God Church in Minier at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011. The Rev. Herlin Summers will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the church from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Morton.
Haensel Funeral Home in Minier is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen attended Illinois State Normal University in Normal, after which she started her teaching career at the Lone Star and Four Corners country schools south of Mackinaw. She continued teaching at the Glendale and Grundy schools in the Morton area.
She and her husband traveled throughout the United States. They also traveled to Germany to visit relatives.
She was a member of Minier Assembly of God Church, the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association and the Tazewell County Home Extension.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Women's Ministries of the Assembly of God Church or to the Hopedale Nursing Home.
