PEORIA - James A. "Jim" Sering, 76, of Peoria passed away at 3:28 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Nov. 28, 1931, in East Peoria, son of Ernest and Mamie Shepard Sering. He married Emma Sumpter on April 13, 1959, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1998, in Peoria. He later married Kathleen Behrens Franklin on Oct. 21, 2006, in Peoria.
Surviving are his wife of Peoria; one son, Russell (Molly) Sering of East Peoria; two daughters, Susan (Robert) Cheesman of Peoria and Cynthia Cahill of Glasford; one stepson, Paul Franklin of Peoria; four grandchildren, Jacci Cheesman, Amanda Cahill and David Cahill, all of Peoria and Elijah Sering of East Peoria; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Elaina and Jakob. Also surviving are three brothers, Jerry (Wilma) Sering of Peoria, Dewey (Joyce) Sering of Dunlap and Roland (Hope) Sering of Arkansas; three sisters, Stella Selkirk of Michigan, Wanda Driscoll of Peoria and Nadine (Jess) Isonhart of East Peoria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Sering; one son, Michael Sering; one brother, Walter Sering; and one sister, Lois Bibo.
Jim is a 1950 graduate of East Peoria High School.
He was a United States Korean Conflict Army veteran.
Jim worked as a wire drawer at Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville for 39 years, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and bowling and he cherished his time with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, where visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
