STEVEN C. STALEY
WHEELERSBURG - Steven C. Staley, "Steve" 57, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, born April 11, 1957 of the late Shirley "Sedor" Staley and Kenneth E. Staley, passed away suddenly Friday evening April 3, 2015, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. Steven grew up and was a Boy Scout (Eagle Scout), and graduated from Orrville High School. He worked for Smith Dairy for a time between graduation from high school and going into the Academy. He applied to and was accepted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. He attended, graduated and was assigned to the Portsmouth Patrol Post in Scioto County. He settled into his new life and soon wed his soulmate Melanie Burkholder of Marshallville, Ohio on May 24, 1979 in Smithville, Ohio. Together they went about making a new life in a new place away from home for the first time. After a long and decorated career, Steve retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol with 20 years' service, he was member of the OH Troopers Coalition. Currently, he was using his life skills and experience working at the Wheelersburg Ace Hardware; he was a member Wheelersburg United Methodist Church. He taught himself woodworking skills and loved making furniture and cabinetry for his home, his family and friends. He worked in the DARE Program where he and his side kick "Orkan" spoke to kids about the dangers of drugs. He taught himself to tie flies and fly fish. He coached his daughter's softball teams, and when he was not working or at the softball fields you could find him fishing. He was greatly respected in the community and will be sorely missed.
He leaves his wife, Melanie Burkholder Staley, of Wheelersburg; two daughters, Rachel, of Columbus, Ohio and Michelle, of Charleston, South Carolina; his father, Kenneth of Wooster, Ohio; a brother, Michael and "Kim " Staley, of Orrville, Ohio; and a sister, Cheryl Archer, of Clermont, Florida, along with many nieces and nephews and a great niece and great nephew.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Wheelersburg United Methodist Church, in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Friends may call from 11:00 until 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Perry Prosch officiating. Dear Steve's Family,
I am so sorry to hear that Steve has passed away. He used to work for my parents at Brooks' Drive In Restaurant in Wooster back in the 70's. He was such a fun-loving guy. I had so much fun with him as a teenager. He taught me a lot about life; we had a lot of great talks.
I am sure he will be missed by so many people. Please know that he touched our family in a very special way.
My deepest sympathy to all of you,

I can't express how sorry I am for the loss of Steve. I feel so privileged to have called him a friend. I met Steve in 1981 when he was a young Trooper and I was a young Deputy. In later years he helped me tremendously when I was a canine handler. I remember all the training we did together and the big smile and laughs when we were training Orken to bite. I know he was a great family man and he devoted a
large part of his life to fighting the battle on drugs. I will always remember what a good person and friend that he was.
