My condolences to Mrs. Pandl and the entire Pandl family. I had the pleasure to be Mr. and Mrs. Pandl's dental hygienist for many years. Joe was such a fascinating man and loved to see him and hear his stories. God Bless you all at this time of loss of a wonderful man. May memories ease your heartache.

I have to say that having heard so many fun stories throughout the funeral, I'm a little envious of the Crafton Crew. It sounds like you all had so much fun and I know how wonderful you all are. I have every confidence you are all continuing to add to the family legacy that Joe so lovingly passed on. I love all you Pandls; you're the best! May God lessen your saddness a little more each day.

I always remember the great times in Crafton, first visiting with Ma and then going accross the street to visit the Pandls. Uncle Joe and Aunt Claire made those visits special. Especially at Christmas and the wonderful train display. He was truly a great Uncle so I can only imagine how great a husband and father he was to all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, but especially with Aunt Claire during this very confusing time

As Director of the Nationality Rooms Program at the University of Pittsburgh, I had a long and fruitful friendship with Joe.
He was Chair of the Austrian Room Committee and saw the beautiful 17th-18th Century Baroque Room through to completion in 1996.
As my husband and I had lived in Linz, Austria for two years – 1948-50, we had much to talk about with Joe.
Joe was a diplomat, whether bargaining for a Lobmyer crystal chandelier for the Room or deciding whether to order schnitzel or gulyas.
For me the Austrian Room will always house memories of Joseph Pandl and his devotion to his heritage.

Dear Pandl Family....Please accept our deepest sympathy on your loss. I can see Mr. Pandl today as I did 55 years ago! Many a day I'd ride my bike to see Janie (as we called her then!)nd Mr. and Mrs. Pandl were always there making sure we didn't ride too far away! This has been a rough year for your family - I've stayed connected to your family through my nieces who were and still are - great friends with Joe. I know you will enjoy the wonderful memories of your husband, father, grandfather and friend - and Lisa and he are smiling down on all of you - 2 great guardian angels.

Uncle Joe always made all his nieces and nephews feel welcomed and loved whenever we came to visit. And we would always one over to see him and Aunt Claire after visiting Grandma Yunker. I remember the wonderful whiffle ball games we had out in Bethel Park in the summer and what great fun we all had with Uncle Joe cheering us all on.
Uncle Joe was one of the best members of what Tom Brokaw called the greatest generation -and I will miss him so very much.

Uncle Joe was and still is a special man and a great man. Growing up in Pittsburgh he was like a second father to me. We were all much younger then, but he was a role model for me. I hated moving away from Crafton and Pittsburgh as a kid, and a big reason for that was losing regular contact with Uncle Joe. He was my street ball buddy. He called me "Luke". He was dynamic. He was smart. He loved Aunt Claire and his kids and would do anything for them.
I lost touch over the years. But I always knew if I could be half the man Uncle Joe is, I'd end up all right.
Well, here we are. I need to go back to Pittsburgh and deal with this.
Many good thoughts and memories go out to Aunt Claire, Jane, Marcia, Albert, Gretchen, Mimi and Joey...

I remember meeting Mr. Pandl at my Uncle John and Aunt Jane's wedding which was held at the Pandl home in Crafton. He was a very happy and friendly man. Over the years, I have enjoyed seeing pictures from the Austrian Ball when Uncle John, Aunt Jane, Alexis and Lauren were able to attend. The Pandl family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure to experience acts of kindness from Joe when I needed rides from Mount Washington to National Works in the early 60's. There were lots of enjoyable conversations including knowing about his father and the Duquesne Club. Obviously, this made an impression I'll never forget.
God bless Joe and his family.

Uncle Joe was always so welcoming to all who came to his home. e and Aunt Claire loved to host holidays and have family events. I have many fond memories of holidays and summers spent in Crafton with Grandma Yunker, the Pandls, and even visits to Uncle Joe's parents house. Being the MC at various Pandl weddings was a tradition he learned from his own father and he continued to entertain all of us at weddings after his own father passed. Th,e many trips he and Aunt Claire made to Austria were well documented and he was happy to share those experiences. He will be greatly missed by all. My deepest sympathies for all of you and especially Aunt Claire during this difficult time. I can picture the gathering in heaven now and be secure in knowing that Uncle Joe is overseeing and commentating on the activities there too. All my love...
