SHUBACK
CECELIA MISKO
May 6, 1923 - September 2, 2016. Born a "city girl" in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, "Ceil," as she was known to all, quickly adapted to life in the suburbs of Jefferson Borough where she and her husband, Will raised their seven children. The first daughter of Nicolas and Amala Misko, she arrived on May 6, 1923. She had one sister, Anna, and always said she was like a real life baby-doll to her. Fiercely independent, Cecelia enjoyed her childhood and in a close-knit Slavic community where friends and family looked after each other and especially her. She was still young by today's standards when she met Wilbert Shuback and after graduating in the Class of 1941 from Taylor Alderdice High School she married him on January 24, 1942. Like many young couples at the time, they were separated by the war and Will's service in the Army, but in time built the family they both dreamed of by having seven children, Wilbert (Sandy), the late Joan (Jim) McLaughlin, Sue Ann (the late Kenneth) Langfitt, Patrice, Richard (Kevin), James (Celeste) and Charles (Lori). Ceil wore many hats, wife, mother, homemaker, and even Will's business partner of their own Shuback Radio & TV. And too, she gladly served as the driver for her children and many of the neighborhood kids to everything from art classes to sporting events, dances and camping trips. She was fully invested in her children, fostering creativity and academic success by providing resources and instruction for their varied interests and by being active in PTA and scouting. Always making time for her own interests, she loved to dance, practiced yoga and tai chi, studied and taught religion, active in community events and the Moose, volunteered and worked at Jefferson Hospital, and traveled extensively with her husband. Known far and wide for her "Ceil-isms" like "Things have a way of working out," and "You know my word - acceptance," and those who knew her are probably still repeating them. Ceil lost her beloved Will in 2011 and her daughter Joan in 2012, but her love of life is carried on by her remaining six children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She has left a long trail of love and wonderful memories and for that we are grateful. Cecelia will be laid to rest next to her husband in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery. Visitation hours will be on Monday, September 5, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236 with a service in her honor on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Donations to a charity that is dear to your heart are appreciated. Online condolences at:
