Jimmie William "Jim" Hammon, 65, of Ririe, Idaho, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at his home of renal failure. He was under the care of Hospice Alliance.
Jim was born June 4, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, to Herman Wilford Hammon and Annie Holverson Hammon. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School.
He married Valerie J. Hanlon on Feb. 15, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in Ririe, where they raised their family and Jim worked in construction -- painting, installing Sheetrock and doing cement work.
Jim was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He volunteered at Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership (EICAP). He enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards and socializing with family and friends. Jim was willing to help anyone in need and was generous with his time.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Hammon of Ririe; his children, Teresa (Russ) Lane of Idaho Falls, Sandi (Mark) David of Nampa, Idaho, Brady Hammon of Nampa, Jim (Kim) Hammon Jr. of Idaho Falls, Kristie (Eric) Hebdon of Washington, Jim (Rebecca) Stewart of Ririe and Laura Stewart of Hawaii; brothers, Willie (Anita) Hammon of Idaho Falls and Ronnie (Bobbie) Hammon of Idaho Falls; sister, Georgia (Dode) Carpenter of Washington; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Corkey Hammon and Eddie Hammon; and a sister, Stella Hammon.
Memorial services will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Eagles Lodge, 635 Hemmert Ave. in Idaho Falls. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wood Funeral Home, P.O. Box 51434, Idaho Falls, ID 83405.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road.
