Doyce Harry Harned, Jr.

CARY, N.C. - Doyce Harry Harned, Jr., a fifty year area resident, entered into rest on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Woodland Terrace Senior Living in Cary, North Carolina. He was 82.

Son of the late Doyce H. Harned, Sr. and Beatrice Durk Harned, he was born on May 1, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. He married Rosemarie Glaser on October 21, 1950 in Sun Valley, California; Mrs. Harned preceded him in death, passing on June 27, 1989.

Mr. Harned served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received a Bachelor of Mathematics from UCLA. In his spare time, Mr. Harned was very active in Mount Alvernia where he acted as a regional minister for the Secular Franciscans. He was also a member of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls.

Survivors include his children, Harry E. Harned and his wife, Susan of Tivoli, Donna Bergman of Leland, NC, Mary Harned of Leland, NC, Robert Harned and his wife, Jill of Cary, NC and James Harned of Carthage, NC; sister, Beatrice Snyder of Glendale, CA; grandchildren, Eliza, Neil, Eric, Nathaniel, Kristen, Alex and Alana; great-grandchildren, Kiley Rose, Abigale and Ava; and two nephews.

In addition to his wife, Rosemarie, he was predeceased by his brother, Louis Harned.

Family will receive friends on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Harned's name to Wake County Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.

Harry shared himself and his faith with the Junior High students in St. Mary's Religious Education Program for many years. It was a joy and an honor to work with him. He was a good man. Our prayers are with you.
