Andrew Mihalko Obituary

Andrew Mihalko
of Johnson City
The world is poorer for the loss of a gentle man, one of those rare and special people whose very actions teach us how to live. On January 22, 2010, Andrew Mihalko's wonderfully long life came to an end. Throughout his 92 years Andy always accepted whatever life had to offer with calmness and composure. He was never critical nor did he judge others. Rather, he was always a ready helper to friends and family; the faithful worker behind the scenes, the wind beneath the wings of others. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary; and brothers, Michael, John, and Stephen. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wilma (Novak) Mihalko; his brother, William Mihalko, Johnson City, NY; his two sons and their wives, William and Janet, Johnson City, NY, Larry and Patricia, Detroit, MI; and his grandchildren, Amy (James) Vignola, James (Maureen) Mihalko, Matthew (Kathryn) Mihalko, Mary Kathleen (Christopher) Therrien, Genevieve Mihalko, Laura Ann Mihalko and Andrew Mihalko. Also surviving their "Grampy" are his great-grandchildren, Patrick Vignola, Matthew Mihalko, Meghan Mihalko, Ashley Mihalko and Benjamin Vignola. He leaves behind his brother-in-law, William (Elizabeth) Novak; sisters-in-law, Beverly Novak and Julie Kanna; cousins; nieces and nephews. Andrew was a happy man, contented and grateful for the gifts that God has given...a gentle man.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City, Tuesday, at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Monday from 4-7 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the St. James Church Memorial Fund, 147 Main St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or a charity of one's choice in Andrew Mihalko's memory.

My deepest sympathies to Bill and his family on your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting your dad, Bill, but it is quite evident what type of man he was by the son he raised. May God grant him eternal rest.

To Andy's Family,
My sincere condolences at the death of Andy. I agree --- he was a "ready helper"!!! So often he was behind the scenes at St. James lending a quiet hand. He was a wonderful parishioner, devoted to his faith and family. It was always a pleasure to see him. He will be missed, but has left a wonderful legacy. Please know of my prayers.
