Ashton Elliott

Binghamton - Ashton R. Elliott, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 10, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Argie Lee and Georgia Elliott; and his brother Argie Lee, Jr. and sister-in-law Barbara Elliott. Ashton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma (Davis) Elliott, Hillcrest; his children Stuart and Patricia Elliott, Chenango Bridge; Susan and James Bohn, Nimmonsburg; five grandchildren, Ryan Wall, Abigail (Jared) Kress, Hannah, Ethan, and Grace Elliott. sister-in-law, Thelma Davis, one niece Esther Lynn Skeans and two nephews, Mark and David Elliott. Ashton was born in Richmond, Virginia on December 24, 1932 and after serving four years in the US Navy, he went to work for GE in Syracuse until 1966. He then began working for the Link Corporation as a technical writer and department manager for almost 30 years. He was a lifelong supporter of Boy Scouts including serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 122 in Hillcrest. He was a fifty year member of Community Baptist Church in Port Dickinson serving in almost every possible position. Upon retirement, he and Norma traveled extensively across the US. They were also long time members of the Shuffling Shoes Square Dancing Club. During his latter years, he enjoyed the company of "The Lunch Bunch" at Wendy's. Finally, Ashton would certainly say that his most significant achievement was completing the entire Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia at the age of 73. Ashton has now laid down his walking stick, taken off his backpack, and arrived at his heavenly lean-to. Take a rest "Old Timer". He will be greatly missed by friends and family. Donations in Ashton's memory can be made to the church's Scholarship Fund. The Elliott's will receive friends at Community Baptist Church at 743 Chenango Street in Port Dickinson Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00 with a memorial service starting at 12:00. A luncheon will follow.
