Lon C. Gilbert

Died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the age of 79. Lon was born March 5, 1935 in Corinne, Utah to the late Carlisle Gilbert and Rachel Young. He moved to Petaluma when he was 11. After serving in the National Guard for several years, he married Jeanette King. In 1959 he married Ruth Nordman, his Love. Technically he was "Refrigeration Mechanic" by profession. In reality, he was so much more. He had the "common sense ability" afforded few. He could diagnose technical problems, invent solutions and often create the tools necessary for the "fix." After 15 years, he slowed down a bit and became Grounds, Maintenance and Transportation Director for the Petaluma City School District where he continued to use his "outside the lines" intellect. Nowhere on job resumes is there a category for "tall storyteller/fabricator," but he was that as well. Lon's parents and brother, Gary young, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Darlene (Robert) Crozier; his wife of 51 years, Ruth Gilbert; step-daughters Aileen (Mark) Bratovich, Pat Nordman and Susan (Michael) Gunn; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Lon's life on Sunday, September 19, 2010, 12:00 noon at Rooster Run Golf Club and Events Center, 2301 East Washington Street, Petaluma.
