Suzanne Destruel Obituary

Beloved daughter of Jean "Dusty" Destruel and Rosemary P. Destruel; loving sister of Randal (Shelley) Destruel, Kevin (Karen) Destruel; devoted mother of Michael A. Baker III, U.S.N. and Jordan H. Baker U.S.N. Suzanne graduated from Ursuline High School in 1976 and got her BA degree from St. Mary's College in 1981. She married Michael Baker Jr. in 1982. They lived in Lafayette, CA until they moved to Truckee, CA when their youngest son was two months old. They divorced soon after and Suzanne went to work in a clothing store, raising her two sons alone. Her whole life has been devoted to her two sons and she always felt they were her greatest achievement. She was cared for and loved by her devoted caregiver Leresa Matarige, her three closest friends that stayed by her bedside day and night, Kim Byrn, Debbie Sedletzky and Karen Siroky. Also the love and care from her sister-in-law, Shelley Destruel who came every day to help care for her and give her much love and comfort. Two of Suzanne's teachers from Ursuline were at her bedside and gave her much comfort, Tim Gatto and Delores Nonella Crowley. She will be greatly missed by her cousin, Darlene Bath, that Suzanne considered her "favorite aunt". Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers any donations in her name may be made to Memorial Hospice, 821 Mendocino, Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401 or Hanna Boys Center, P.O. Box 100, Sonoma, CA 95476. Dear Destruel Family, I join with my entire family in extending our deepest sympathies in the loss of your sister, daughter and mother. Although grateful for her relief from suffering, her loss must leave a bottomless hole in your hearts. I remember Sam well, especially playing with her at our brothers' football games. This was before CN had its own field so games were played at SRJC. Oh, Barbara and I had some fun memories of Sam! May God bless you all with comfort and love.
