Art "Billy" Grahl Jr. obituary

Art Grahl Obituary

Passed away from a heart attack on Sunday, October 10, 2010. He was 62 years old. Art was born in Pontiac, Michigan to Arthur W. Grahl, Sr. and Catherine E. Jurkewicz Grahl on September 26, 1948. The family moved to Sebastopol when he was seven years of age. He attended the local schools and graduated from Analy Union High School in 1967. Out of high school he worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and was a fisherman out of Fort Bragg Harbor for a few years. He was a truck driver for the remainder of his working career. Art enjoyed tinkering with engines and motorcycles, watching movies, and most of all fishing. Estranged from his two children for over 30 years, he was re-united with them in February of this year. The last nine months of his life were the happiest he had known in a very long time. (Thank you Shelley). He is survived by his two children Shelley and Russ; and four grandchildren: Austin, Christopher, Taylor and Chase and his sister, Kay. Rest in peace my dear brother. Private services were held with family.

"Art Enigma"
(A poem offered in tribute to our neighbor "Arty" --
With sadness over his sudden and untimely passing...)

By Jean C. Fisher

I would see you, sometimes,
in the evenings --

standing beside your car
in the dark --

your gaze transfixed

on a small rectangle
of the southern night sky...

As I came and went
in and out the driveway --

caught up in the completion
of my trivial errands --

I pictured you as having
somehow loftier goals...

Always seemingly lost
in the contemplation
of indecipherable puzzles,

Of mysteries of ages long past --

Standing beside your car
-- there in the dark --

for hours,

Alone...

-- End --

"Arty":
I appreciated so much your "pixie-ish" spirit and good humor. You shall be missed greatly...

Live on in the Light, Brother Art.
