Grant Evans Obituary

11/26/1933-12/1/2010 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful Christian, Grant L. Evans, 77, of Santa Rosa passed away December 1, 2010 after a long illness. Born in Santa Rosa to George H. and Beatrice E. Evans, Grant was the oldest of seven children. He spent most of his youth in Annapolis, CA, where he attended Horicon School, (the same one-room school attended by his father), and he worked on the family ranch. In 1953, Grant joined the Army and served during the Korean War. After leaving military service in 1955, Grant worked at Rockport lumber mill in Cloverdale. He soon met and married the former Marlene J. Howell in April of 1957. Grant and Marlene raised two children and were married 53 years. Grant became a carpenter and later a general contractor and built many homes in Sonoma, CA, where three streets bear his name. In his later years, Grant enjoyed serving as deacon at Berean Baptist Church in Rohnert Park. He will be most remembered for his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren, some of whom affectionately called him Poppy; for his love of God and of his church family; and for his incredible work ethic. Grant is survived by his wife Marlene; daughter Renée L. Gamble (Doug) of Silverdale, WA, son Dr. Gregory L. Evans (Elizabeth) of Laytonsville, MD; and five grandchildren: Julie, Sarah, Rachel, Graham, and Logan. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Berean Baptist Church, Rohnert Park, CA. SANTA ROSA MORTUARY EGGEN & LANCE CHAPEL, 545-3747
