1946 - 2017

SOUTHARD, Daniel Martin Early Monday morning, October 9, 2017, Daniel Martin Southard passed away in the wild fires that tore through Sonoma County. Dan was born in Seattle Washington, April 18, 1946 to Ed and Alice Southard. He attended Crescenta Valley High School, graduating in 1964. He participated in athletics, specializing in football earning numerous accolades for his skills. Dan attended Azusa Pacific University, where he earned a degree in sociology. The next several years he worked with disabled adolescents in Pomona and Sonoma, CA, teaching and caring for them. Never losing his love of football, he spent many seasons pacing the sidelines cheering and teaching young men to achieve their dreams. He became a personal trainer and eventually purchased Gold's Gym in Santa Rosa. Dan was preceded by his amazing wife Candace Southard. Dan will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Suzanne (Southard) Corrigan, Kathleen (Southard) Worthington and Mary (Southard) Hood and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan Southard's greatest joy was his son Derek Southard, who resided with Dan in Santa Rosa until the fire took everything. A Celebration of Dan's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Eastern Recreation center at Oakmont, 7902 Oakmont Drive, Saturday, December 2nd.
