MIRIAM COHEN Obituary



COHEN, MIRIAM CRANE - died Tuesday, , August 2, 2011 of complications from Multiple Myeloma. Miriam was born in Atlantic City, on October 30, 1930, to Harry and Sarah Crane. She attended Atlantic City High School and later earned a baccalaureate degree from New York University. Miriam had a lengthy career as a professional home economics consultant and writer. She worked in the test kitchens of Nabisco and was Food Editor for Electricity on the Farm and Weight Watchers' Magazine. She also wrote for Strength and Health, and Men's Health. More recently, she worked as a secretary at the Jewish Theological Seminary, where she was involved with a youth program. Miriam enjoyed the opera, museums, and the theater. Her hobbies included water aerobics and painting. She was a fiercely independent, candid woman with a finely honed sense of humor. Friends and neighbors were impressed by her generosity of spirit and loyalty. Miriam was predeceased by her dear husband, Joseph Cohen. She is survived by her brother, Herbert Crane, of Portland, OR, and her sister, Florence Crane Novek of Margate, NJ, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom had close and loving relationships with her. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, August 7 at 1 p.m. at Beth El Synagogue, 500 N. Jerome Avenue in Margate, NJ. Following interment, family and friends will return to 7600 Winchester Avenue for hospitality. A memorial service will be held at a later date in New York City.
