Dear Mrs. Bloom: Max treated me from the time I first moved to Rhode Island in the early 60s until his retirement. Among the reasons for my selecting him as my primary care physician, apart from his credential's (carefully considered), was his age at the time, it being my expectation that we would grow old together. I was disappointed when he retired, too early. I always felt we had a special relationship, as he would often keep me as his last patient of the day, talking at length, Max discussing law, while I discussed medicine. I wasn't sure whether I should bill him for the visit or he should bill me. I often spoke of him with succeeding healthcare providers, whether primary care or specialists, about my experiences with and regard for Max. (I was talking with him when the lights went out in the Northeast in the '6os, and he found a flashlight to help me escape his office on Governor Street.) I will take the time to put together a long letter to you and your family regarding much I would like to say about him. My condolences on his passing. I, too, will miss him. He was very special.

Dear Frances. I was so saddened to learn of Max's passing. He was a tremendous help to me when I was a young doctor just starting out in practice. I will never forget his kindness to me.

I don't know how many times that Dr. Bloom saved my mother's life. He had patience. He was caring and he was tremendously knowledgable and on the cutting edge of cardiac issues. Both my parents thought the world of him. It was a sad day for my whole family when he retired. He dedicated his life to helping others and in turn his family also gave up a lot of their time with him so he could be with his patients. Thank-you all for sharing this extraordinary man with us. He was part of our family for many years. May your sorrow be tempered with the knowledge that he brought life to others. For my family he gave us a mother and wife who should not have lived past her 40's, to a woman who got to see her grandson graduate college. Thank-you from the family of Alyce Evans.
