Richard Schriver Obituary

Richard Schriver Richard L. Schriver, Retired Sergeant First Class, 82, a resident of Elmcroft Senior Living, Shippensburg and formerly of 427 Cleveland Ave., Waynesboro, died at 9:16 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 in the emergency room of the Chambersburg Hospital. Born November 25, 1931 in Dubois, he was the son of the late Robert and Madeline (Cramer) Schriver. Mr. Schriver was a graduate of Chambersburg High School, class of 1950. He and his wife, the late Mary Jane (Felker) Schriver, were married in May 1950. Mrs. Schriver died November 26, 1983. Mr. Schriver served in the United States Army for 23 years, including being a combat veteran from the Vietnam War. He later worked for 13 years as a federal security officer at Letterkenny Army Depot. He attended Fayetteville Pentecostal Church of God and was a life member of William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post #695, Waynesboro. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. The joy of his life was being a swimming instructor at the Waynesboro YMCA. He is survived by six children, Robert D. Schriver and his wife, Betty Lou of Waynesboro, Jeffrey L. Schriver of Greencastle, Timothy A. Schriver and his wife, Deanne of Edenville, Robin L. West of Waynesboro, Randy L. Schriver and his wife, Tina of Waynesboro, and Tammy Jo Pechart and her husband, Joel of New Cumberland, ; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Schriver of St. Thomas and Leslie "Tyke" Schriver and his wife, Cindy of Scotland; one sister, Virginia Thorpe and her husband, William of Washington state; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with the Rev. Staci Geesaman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday evening, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Waynesboro YMCA, 810 E.
