What a challenge to write something that honors a man who had such a way with words. I knew Lou through his daughter, Devon. He was always so compassionate and empathetic and soothing to her. That's what ever girl needs from her Daddy. I was touched by the instant warmth given to me by Lou and Asako, simply because I was a friend of Devon's. My heart aches for everyone Lou left behind, and I can only hope that he and Devon are together again, enjoying each other's company.

I will always remember Lou's wonderful smile and sense of humor. He had a joyful disposition. I could only imagine how inspirational he was to his students, fellow colleagues, clients, as well as his family and friends. I pray that you, Asako, and other family members, are able to sense his spirit as you go through this difficult time. He will always be there with you, and as you remember him, I pray that your heart is filled with love and comforting memories of him. With love from our family to yours, Sharon Chun Wetterau

Lou Markert was my best friend for 39 years. He was a consummate listener and had incredible empathy. We talked about everything, and when we weren't talking about our lives, we were laughing. We must have walked over 2,000 miles. His death is both a terrible personal loss and a source of deep inspiration.
