Anthony Martinez Obituary

Mr. Anthony A. Martinez
May 13, 1929 - November 13, 2011

"Tony" passed away peacefully in his sleep of congestive heart failure on November 13, 2011. He was 82. Born in Rociada, NM on May 13, 1929 to Enriques and Carlota Martinez, he joined the Navy at age "17". He enjoyed seeing the world aboard the USS Tarawa, and was honorably discharged in 1947. He married our mother, Ramona, in 1949 and moved to California in 1950. Survived by his children from his 1st marriage, Betty and Judy Martinez, of Anderson, CA and Benjamin Martinez of Lolo, MT, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He remarried numerous times, and is also survived by his son Antone Martinez of Lolo, MT from his marriage to Belinda. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sam, Henry (Hank), Johnny, Raymond, and Canuto. Survived by brother Gary Lee (Lydia) Martinez of Wakeegan, IL, sisters Clorinda Marie(Don) Truax and MaryLou Klein of Mpls, MN, Mary(Arnold) Swango of Anderson, IN, and numerous nephews ,nieces and a few cousins.

He was a machinist at Standard Oil in Richmond, CA until the mid-sixties. He went on to a career in the trucking industry, as "owner, operator", hauling for various company's. He was proud of the fact that he had been to all of the lower 48 states. In November of 2004, along with his daughters, purchased a home with enough land to raise goats, which he enjoyed up until a couple years ago. Even though he was unable to handle the goats any longer, he was doing yard work almost to the end of his life. With his failing health, he was still showing us how to fix a wheelbarrow. We love you dad, and miss you.

As per his wishes, he was cremated and will be interred at the Veterans cemetery in Igo, CA. A memorial will be held at a later date. Tony's family wishes to thank the staff of Mercy Hospice, Mountain Caregivers/Interim for their care and kindness during the past few months.

Really miss you pops.. thinking of your calm voice, true wisdom, and heartfelt hugs makes me happy but heartbroken I can't experience those anymore. I thank you for putting up with my foolishness all those years, if it weren't for you I wouldn't have the life I have now. It's funny, today in these harsh times I find myself unknowingly doing a lot of the things you used to do.. margarine tubs for leftovers, coffee cans for tools etc. Your wisdom as follows: if it's broke find a way to fix it, if you can't fix it find a way to use it, and if all else fails recycle or burn it hehe. I'll never forget your 5 star cooking, and compassion for animals. You and my first pet rat Lem bonded right away and that meant a lot to me, animals are the best judge of character and they don't take to bad people. And I still remember every morning when Judy came by to check on you how Bubba would frantically run straight to you, makes me laugh now picturing him staring at you hoping for you to slip up and drop a cookie as you sipped on coffee and cursed at the TV due to all the bad news :) Again though even with all the negative surroundings in this crazy world you still remained compassionate for family, friends, and animals big and small (though you and Flirt the goat would have some pretty bad stare downs ending in phrases not fit for this memorial lol) I help out with small animals at the Humane Society here off and on, no goats though. It hurts typing this but I must realize your suffering is over, you were never one to hold back emotion. In June we said our goodbyes knowing it would be the last time and it allowed me to feel closure. Big thank you to my sisters Judy and Betty for bringing him up here to visit, it would have been devastating not having that closure. I know how you prayed for us all adamantly every night and I will do my best to forget about the past and get along peacefully the way you wished. In the end all that matters is the good, the bad is as you would say "water under the bridge". Your heart didn't give out on you, it just became too big for this world. With all my love and respect, your son Antone Martinez Jr. ~~(())3> Eternal Peace

I kinda wish now I had added his faith somewhere in the obituary. He studied with the Jehovah Witnesses for many years, however, he was never baptized. He was baptized a Catholic as a baby. Judy Martinez, daughter

I'm so glad that I was able to spend more time with you this past year, especially in the past few months. I will cherish the memories I have and hold them close to my heart. I love you grandpa, I know your at peace and I'm glad you were able to have mom and aunt Betty by your side taking care of you until your final breath.
