Matthew Hales Obituary

ROCKFORD, MICH. - Matthew Kevin Hales, 27, of Greenville, N.C. and formerly of Rockford, returned to Heaven as an angel on July 20, 2011. He was born on July 31, 1983 to Mark and Tracy (Root) Hales. Matt was taken from family and friends in a tragic car accident in Greenville, N.C. He had already survived a near-fatal car accident on June 3, 2000; therefore, he had an appreciation for life that few others had. Matt was a 2002 graduate of Rockford High School, attended Aquinas College, and received his B.S. degree from Grand Valley State University in 2006. He was a Specialty Sales Representative for Shionogi Pharma, Inc. Matt wanted to change lives and make the world a better place, and he did in the way he lived, worked, and loved. He was very proud of his political blog, Bookworm Patriots, to which he invested much time and passion. His sense of humor was infectious. Matt gave of himself often to those in need and the homeless. A bigger heart, one would not find. Stephanie was not only his wife, but also his best friend. He adored his children, and they were his world, his everything. Matt's multitude of friends and family loved him because of the kind, selfless, inspirational person he was; and because he in turn loved them all so dearly. Matt's passing will leave an ache in the hearts of his family and friends. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Greenville, N.C. and a former member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Rockford.
Matt is survived by wife, Stephanie (Cole) Hales; son, Noah Matthew; daughter, Chloe Marcella; parents, Mark and Tracy (Root) Hales; brother, Tom Hales; sister, Kristen Hales; grandparents, Glenn and Marlene Hales, and Jerry and Sandy Root; mother-in-law Sue Livingston; father-in-law Pat Cole; brother-in-law, Jeff Cole; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many other friends and family Matt held close to his heart. The Mass of Christian Burial for Matt will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Page presiding. Interment will be in Rockford Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed tonight at 8:30 at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the educational fund established for Noah and Chloe, at any Huntington Bank, payable to the Hales Children College Fund. Stephanie would like family and friends to write their memories of Matt to their children so they can better know about the man who is and always will be their father. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Pederson Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday.

On behalf of Matthew's family, I want to thank everyone who has signed the guest book and written so kindly of Matt. We are still much in grief over such a tragic and profound loss. But we are also comforted in knowing how much Matt was loved and by how many people he affected and inspired in his, all too brief, 27 years of life.
Thank you, All.
Mark Hales (Matt's father).

Our office was just getting to know Mathew, but we were immediately struck by his sincerity, kindness for others, and love of his family. He shared some of his medical history with us and his attitude was inspirational. I encouraged him to keep telling his story. A truly gifted young man.

To Matt's Family, I want you to know that Matt was indeed an angel here on earth. Matt and I started and trained together at Sciele/Shionogi in Feb of 2007. We studied together, ate every meal together and shared many wonderful times together during our two weeks of training in Atlanta. I spoke to him in April when he shared with such joy and delight the birth of Chloe. He was such a Proud Papa of both of his kids! I am so deeply saddened that his life ended so tragically. He was the most tender and gentle and kind soul. I pray that God will give you the strength to endure during this very difficult time.

I have worked with Matt at Sciele/Shionogi for the past several years and can't say enough nice words about him. What a pleasant, happy, loving individual. We spent time training in Atlanta last November and I am thankful I had the opportunity to get to know him better. Stephanie, it was not hard to see that you were the light of his world. I heard all about Noah and the new baby that would be joining the family this year. What a proud dad! Matt and I also enjoyed talking politics. Mr. and Mrs. Hale you raised a fine young man. My prayers have been with you, God Bless your family

I work at an office in Greenville NC that Matt called on as a Drug Rep. I want to extend my full condolences to his family. Matt was such a nice person and always put a smile on the staffs face when he dropped in to say hello. We will miss the days of him coming in and chatting about what book we should read next or how amazing his beautiful wife and children are. God Bless his family and you will be in my prayers.
