Martha Fountain Obituary

FOUNTAIN, MARTHA E. Martha E. Fountain, 77, of Charles Street, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Joseph W. Fountain. Mrs. Fountain was born in Waterbury on August 21, 1936, daughter of the late Helen (Smith) and Dr. Rolland G. Ewing. A graduate of Oberlin and Yale, Martha was involved in the Northwestern Connecticut Girl Scout Council as a leader and on the Board. She was a long time member of Center Congregational Church where she served on many committees, including a term as Moderator and on the rebuilding committee after the 1979 fire. Martha loved to sing and lent her voice to the Berkshire Singers, Center Church Choir, Yankee Chorale, Silver Belles and Beaux, and various local theater productions. In addition to Joseph, Martha’s husband of fifty-two years, she leaves behind daughters Catherine Ross of Fort Thomas, KY, Rebecca Goodenough of Niceville, FL, Melinda Kman of Enola, PA, her brother James G. Ewing of Southport, CT, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at a later date to be announced. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
