Hardy was born in Christopher, Illinois and raised in Denver, Colorado where he graduated from Denver University. He married Faith McVicker, his college sweetheart, and they resided in various cities in California where he played second base on three world championship fast pitch softball teams. They finally made their home in Reno where he played on Harold's Club softball team, and started his forty year career in the gaming business. Hardy also became an accomplished golfer and for many years was a member of Hidden Valley Country Club.

Hardy was preceded in death by his wife, Faith; his brothers, Charles and Billy; his sister, Helen; and his grandson, Jonathan. He is survived by his sister, Becky; his children, Karen (Patrick), Gary (Linda), Helen (Dan) and Hardy (Lori); and grandchildren, Jackie, Kaitlyn, and Haana.

The family would like to thank Dr. Thurman and the Red Team at the V.A. Hospital, and the staff at Highland Manor Care Facility in Fallon, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Hardy's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada, 1301 Cordone Ave. Su. 180, Reno, Nevada 89509.
