Mary Lourinda Wines Armuth

1935 -

2012

Elko native, Mary Lourinda Wines Armuth died peacefully on November 17, 2012, surrounded by her family following a brief illness. A fourth generation Nevadan and descendent of a pioneer ranching family, she was born to James Wines and Lourinda Rahbeck on August 28, 1935.

Mary Lou graduated from Elko High School in 1953 and soon afterwards married her high school "sweetheart", Charles Armuth, Jr. Together, they raised their five children. As a young adult, she studied elementary education and graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Nevada-Reno.

A lifetime Nevada resident, Mary Lou spent the majority of her adulthood in Elko. In 1986, she accepted a teaching job with the Elko County School District. During her teaching career, she taught second and third grades at Sage Elementary until her retirement this year. Mary Lou was a member of the honorary education sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty years, and two brothers, Calvin and Gordon Wines. She is survived by her four sons Michael (Vera), Darrell (Donna), David (Debbie), and Craig Armuth, and one daughter, Lori Passmore; her twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, Blaine and Buster Wines; and many nieces and nephews.

The morning of November 26, 2012, visitation and funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1559 Sewell Drive, in Elko, Nevada. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 10:00. In Mary Lou's memory, charitable contributions can be made to the Northeastern Nevada Museum or the First Presbyterian Church.
