My condolences to the LARGE extended family of Alvis Atwell. I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Atwell at his home in June 2009 on a day when one of his grandchildren (?) was there mowing the lawn one day. I stopped by at the suggestion of one of my friends in our hiking club that maintains the local section of the Appalachian Trail (AT)that passes through the Ceres area. Mr. Atwell was a unique and knowledgable gentleman, a repository of some of the accumulated history and knowledge of Ceres VA. Our group, PATH (Piedmont Appalachian Trail Hikers) appreciates our "Trail Neighbors" who live along the AT and are always saddended whenever we learn of a neighbor's passing. With kindest regards, Greg Weaver - Mocksville, NC
