Patricia Jenkins Obituary

Patricia Ann Mayo (Pat) Jenkins, 63, of Roanoke, departed this earthly life on Sunday, August 14, 2011, to receive her heavenly reward. Patricia was born on September 17, 1947, to the late James M. and Jennie B. Mayo. She was a graduate of Lucy Addison High School, Class of 1967. Patricia received her Associates Degree in Mental Health from Virginia Western Community College. Patricia retired from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after 27 years of dedicated service. She was a very warm and friendly person whose sweet and fun-loving personality drew others to her. Patricia always had a lovely smile on her face and would help anyone in need. She truly loved her family and was devoted to them. She loved her church family and enjoyed attending the eight o'clock early morning service. Those left to joyously celebrate Patricia's life and cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Monica Lyons; grandchildren, Destiny R. Lyons and Antonio M. Lyons, all of Roanoke; one brother, Frank E. (Carol) Mayo, of Dallas, Texas; four sisters, Mary Mayo, of Jamaica, N.Y., Nancy Cobb, of Detroit, Mich., and Barbara Smith and Dorothy Little, both of Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family wishes to express our deep appreciation to Patricia's former co-workers on the fourth and fifth floors of Carilion Rehabilitation Center, to her devoted friends and caregivers, Jerri, Jenny, Tracy, Angie and all of her friends in the program. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at noon on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd W. Gregory Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011, at HamlarCurtis Funeral Home. Pat and I have been friends for so many years I can't count. I remember her love of the Dallas Cowboys, cooking with Sylvia and caring for others. We were neighbors for so many, many years but friends forever. Monica, my heart goes out to you and your family. Pat was such an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. God be with you all.
