I was a PhD student at the time where Dr. Sitz was doing RNA related work. Although I was not his student he though me a lot about RNA and showed me some important tips that I was missing. He was a very nice person as well as a nice teacher. I miss him and will always remember him. I hope that he will be in peace.

Dear Sitz Family,

I knew Dr. Sitz briefly, but he was a great man. I was asked to guest lecture in his classes last year and I am getting ready to do the same again this week. He appeared to have a great rapport with his students and other faculty. His energy and sense of humor will be missed.

With Deepest Sympathy,

Dear Sitz Family: My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family at this time. I Knew Dr. Sitz through the Preceptor ship the last 2 1/2 years at MRH. He was a good man and I enjoyed working with him. I know that he enjoyed working with the students and gave him great joy to know that they were actually absorbing the knowledge and that he helped in some way.

Dearest Bonnie, Molly, Scott, Rachel, Sarah, little Thomas, Uncle John and the entire Sitz family,

We send our love and prayers from Colorado to all of you in Virginia this weekend. We are thinking of you constantly and love you very much. Ed and I are saddened that Tom is no longer with us but we admire him so for many things. It was so evident how much he loved all of you, he led a life of integrity and he fought his cancer quietly and bravely every single day. He sure did make it look easy, didn't he? We truly are honored to have known him. Thank you for sharing him with us! Love to you all, Barbara Jean and Ed Dowski

Dear Bonnie and Molly,

There are no words to adequately express my grief on the loss of Tom. He was a man who is counted amongst the Good and Great. It was when I interviewed in 1985 for a faculty position in the Biochemistry Department, that I first knew of Tom’s kindness and the pleasure of conversing with him. I had the privilege of working with him over the next four years as we developed a curriculum on HIV, and also lectured throughout Virginia on that subject. Tom had the uncommon traits of being a first rate scientist and lecturer, and having a genuine interest in the well-being of his friends and students. He was a man of principle and had the courage to act on his convictions.

Tom had the support of a loving family, and will be remembered with love. May the good memories, and knowledge of the good Tom did for so many, bring solace to you and your family at this time of grief.

With Deepest Sympathy,

Joyce

Tom will be missed by everyone especially those of us at Izzak Walton League. He always had a smile, a story or a joke to share. Words can't express how much we appreciate his dedication, generosity, and most of all, the opportunity to have known him.

Dr. Sitz taught me a graduate class in 1995 and then he became my advisor when I was finishing up my doctorate program at George Mason Univ. I remember Dr. Sitz as a very kind-hearted individual, willing to help whenever he could and a very good friend. I know his family loved him and so did those who interacted with him academically such as me. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.

Dr. Sitz was the very first person that I met, on my first visit to Viginia Tech. He was my professor and advisor and he was wonderful at both. He was very supportive of his students and he was a very kind and understanding person. My class which he taught was by far my favorite class that I took in college. I am very sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you, the family, during this difficult time. I just wanted you to realize how much not only you loved him but the University and his students did as well.

Dear Bonnie and Molly,
Though I have known each of you longer than I knew Tom, I want you to know that in the short time I knew him, I quickly realized he was an amazing man. He was an inspiration to all of us and his legacy as a scholar and gentleman will long be remembered. Molly, he spoke so often of you and your family and kept me informed about what was going on in your life. He was so proud of you! I'm sorry that I am out of town and won't be able to attend the funeral, but know that I am thinking of you and sending you peaceful thoughts during this difficult time.
Best regards,

Tom touched so many people's lives with his kindness and dedication to all things he held dear to him. He would come into Custom Gun Shop and speak to Mr. Harkrader for hours (which was a blessing as it kept Don from being crabby to the customers!) They would talk about their ailments and their love of firearms. I was blessed to have known this great man and he will be dearly missed by all.
