Hazel McGrady Childress, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with Jesus on Sunday, June 13, 2010. She has been reunited with her father, Dewey S. McGrady; and sister, Ireland June Grady. Hazel is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 53 years, Charles Wendell Childress; her daughters, Vickie Jean Long, and Brenda June Cooper and husband, Craig; sons, Charles Dewey Childress and significant others, Beth and Heath, and Gary William Childress; and her mother, Ms. Jean Riley McGrady. Hazel had 11 grandchildren, Ashley, Kristin, Christopher, Patrick, Stephen, Nick, Shawn, Daniel, Jacob, and Heather; one greatgranddaughter, Lexi; and great-grandson, Levi, due in August. Also surviving are nephew, Ben Grady and son, Zach; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Hazel was a wonderful wife to Charlie and the best mom ever to her children. She was a devout member of Grandin Court Baptist Church and a 50 year resident of the Hidden Valley community. Her family would like to thank the compassionate and devoted nurses and doctors of Lewis Gale. A special thanks to the Medical ICU nurses. Hazel will be dearly missed. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel. The service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Oakey's South Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Salem, Va.
