Lawrence Neal Rorrer, 82, of Harrison, Ark., passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at his home. Lawrence was born July 3, 1929 in Bassett, to the late Kyle Gordon and Ada Bailles Rorrer.
After graduating from Bassett High School, Lawrence enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. He later attended Hofstar College in New York while still in the service. He completed his degree in Accounting at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, where he met his wife, Martha. His career included working as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service in Columbus, Ohio, Fayetteville, N.C., and Danville, and two years as an internal auditor for Burlington Industries before opening his own CPA practice in Martinsville. After twelve years of private practice, he accepted a position of Controller for Jones Supply Company and moved to Harrison, Ark. in 1969. When the company sold, he opened Rorrer Supply Company in Harrison and operated it for many years. In addition, he maintained his CPA certification and took great pleasure in helping his clients and friends.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and one grandson, Phillip Bible. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Long Rorrer of the home; a son, Kyle Gordon Rorrer II and his wife, Sylvia Kilgore-Rorrer of Harrison; two daughters, Elisa Renee Rorrer of the home, and Kathryn Neal Denzer and her husband, Steve Denzer of Fayetteville; two grandsons, Jake Denzer of Russellville, Dalton Denzer of Fayetteville; two granddaughters, Stephanie Manes of Springfield, Mo., and Adria Kilgore Bueg of Harrison; a great-granddaughter, Lawlli Manes, of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Lorene DeLoach of Collinsville, and Lois Kirkland of Danville as well as extended family developed from friendships including Scott Thompson, Heath Nichols, Lou Ann Brown and her daughter Bailey, all of Harrison.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison.
