Luther Epperly Obituary

Luther Willard Epperly, was surrounded by his loving family as he joined his Lord and Savior at the VA hospital in Salem on Friday, January 15, 2010, at the age of 88. Luther was a wonderful, gentle and caring father and grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed having a family and often boasted about his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He loved baseball and football and frequently played and supported the Golden Years Bowling League and the North Fork Baptist Church League. Luther was a United States Army veteran and served during WWII and retired from Virginia Tech Security Department Luther is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen Furrow Epperly and son Carl Willard Epperly. He is also preceded in death by parents, Posey and Lula Hixon Epperly; and brothers, Leonard Epperly, Raymond Epperly, and Garland Epperly and his wife, Connie. Left to cherish his memory is daughter, Patricia E. Allen and husband, Woody Sr.; sons, Ritchie Epperly, Derwin Epperly and wife, Brenda, and Barry Epperly and wife, Dianna; eight grandchildren, Woody Allen Jr. and wife, Cameron, Josh Allen and wife, Erika, Corissa Epperly, Caleb Epperly, Lucas Epperly, Brittany Epperly, Phillip Epperly and Brooke Epperly; three greatgrandchildren, Wood Allen III, Gaylen Allen, and Lucy Allen; brothers, Rob Epperly, Garnett Epperly and wife, Peggy, Ray Epperly and wife, Edith; sisters, Ruby Cupp and husband, Alfred, and Lois Lane; sisters-in-law, Joyce Epperly and Ruby Epperly. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Fred Brugger and Dr. Scott Souther officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Military honors will be provided by Pulaski VFW Post 1184. Friends may call any time Monday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
