Hazel Whelchel Obituary

HAZEL M. WHELCHEL, 75 ROCKFORD - Hazel M. Whelchel, 75, of Rockford rejoined her beloved husband, Marvin, on Thursday, May 5, 2011. Hazel was the daughter of Frank and Lucy Smith. Married Marvin Whelchel in June 1983. Hazel was a charter member of Faith Tabernacle Church in 1964; she currently attended Faith Community Church. Hazel enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time with her family. Survived by sisters, Elwanda (Harry) Robins of Loves Park, Mary Hart of Davis Junction, Darlene (Donald) Hopkins of McDougal, Ark., and Betty (Gary) Haggard of Corning, Ark.; sister-in-law, Bev Smith of Davis Junction; children, Marvinteen (Aldon) Magee of Phoenix, Marsha (Terry) Smith and Steve Whelchel, both of Rockford, and Judi (Jim) Spain of Stillman Valley; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents; husband; brother, Bud Smith; and brother-in-law, Loren Hart. Service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, in Faith Community Church, 5950 35th St. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. Condolences may be sent online at sunsetfhmemgardens.com.
