Norbert R. Gauthier

CHESTER - Norbert R. Gauthier, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at his home in Chester after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Willimantic, Conn., son of Roland and Josephine (LaVallee) Gauthier.

He raised chickens and geese on his own farm and for Menorah Poultry, worked at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., as a mechanic for Crossen Builders and Ralston Purina in Franklin, Conn., as a Trager practitioner in Hebron, Conn., an innkeeper and carpenter in Chester.

In his later years, his hobbies included raising pigs and chickens, and playing cards. He was a founding member of the Connecticut Men's Gathering.

He was predeceased by an infant sister, Claire.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Hasbrouck of Chester; his three children, Norbert Gauthier of North Windham, Conn., Deborah Silliman and Susan Ouellet of Chaplin, Conn.; and their mother, Cecile Sutcliffe, of Lisbon, Conn., with whom he co-parented.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at Gassetts Grange, Route 103, Chester.
