Rose Goerend Obituary

Fierce mother, #1 grandmother, no-nonsense wife, loving sister, cherished friend, and life-long 'andariega.' Rose Mary Goerend, just shy of 95, peacefully relocated to her heavenly address on Sunday March 26, 2017. Called home by God, she joins her son Freddie, daughter Sadie, husband Fred, and countless other family members and friends who are no doubt, ecstatic to have her back in the mix. Fun, funny, and fiery, 'Rosie' was a model human being. She was an independent woman long before it was fashionable, a terrific cook of Mexican cuisine, and a creative spirit who had an infectious love for music and dance. She'll be remembered for Monday night dinners at Grandma's, mariachi music playing in the background of wherever she was, vibrant fashion choices, and an ability to beat any child or adult at a card game, with a trademarked smirk on her face. Most of all, she will be treasured for her overflowing generosity and unconditional kindness. She served as the unofficial mayor, taxi-operator, and immigration worker of her Fruitridge neighborhood never meeting a fellow Latino she couldn't help get a job, find a house, or take to buy groceries. From her childhood days in rural Colorado, to her last days in Sacramento, she lived out her life's motto: "don't give up, keep it up," reminding us all she is the most tenacious, hard-working, unstoppable woman we will ever know. She is survived by her daughters Betty and Susan, her son Phillip, 12 adoring grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great grandchildren. She left us with a song on her lips, a smile on her face, and enough love to last a lifetime. A celebration of her life will take place April 6 and 7. On Thursday, we invite you to Nicoletti Funeral home - viewing from 5 to 7pm, Rosary at 7pm. On Friday, join us at St. Rose Catholic Church at 10am for a memorial mass followed by interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. Finally, join us for a joyful sendoff, complete with mariachi band, at 2pm at Clunie Hall in McKinley Park.
