Carey Duncan Obituary

Carey Carson Duncan, Jr.

CHARLOTTE - Carey Carson Duncan, Jr. went to join his beloved Gloria on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 after a brief illness.

Born July 22, 1921 in Charlotte, he was the son of the late Carey Carson Duncan and his mothers, Janie Orders Duncan and Mayfield Sawyer Duncan. A 1941 graduate of Central High School, he had secretly married his childhood sweetheart, Gloria Miriam Watkins on March 15, 1941. Carson or CC as he was known to his family and friends, attended Mars Hill College until enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps in February 1942, serving in the European Theater during World War II.

He took early retirement in 1981 after 30 years with Exxon, to take care of Gloria. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. Duncan taught by example what unconditional love was. His love of animals and nature was passed down to his family. Being "Boompa" to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren was his greatest joy. He was always the biggest kid in the room.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Duncan Williams, Evelyn Duncan Calvin; brother-in-law Joseph Calvin; his mother-in-law, Helen Conklin; and his little buddies, Alex and T.J.

He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Duncan Lowman and fiance; Al Alexander of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; son, Carey Carson Duncan III of Salisbury; two grandchildren, David Hugh Lowman and wife Loretta of Greensboro and Jennifer Lowman Raisis and husband John of Surfside Beach, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, his namesakes, Taylor Carson Lowman, Morgan Duncan Lowman, and Alexander Raisis; sister, Janie Duncan Calhoun (Tom) of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Ray Williams of Oregon; several nieces and nephews; close cousin Robert Hamilton; dear friends Norma and Mark White; and honorary grandson Wiley Alexander.

The family wishes to express deep appreciation to all of the wonderful staff at Asbury Care Center.

Service &Visitation: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Rd.
