Bonnie Morris Obituary

1940 ~ 2014
Bonnie Jane Lazenby Morris passed the 25th of January from her home in this world, surrounded by her loved ones, into the arms of her eternal family. All who came to know her sweet face, her earnest grace and giving spirit will mourn her light dearly.
She was born March 3, 1940, to Arthur J. Lazenby and Georgia Farrar Lazenby in Salt Lake City. Bonnie graduated from Olympus High and University of Utah. She taught elementary school out of college. Bonnie loved sewing, collecting miniatures, reading and traveling. Her great calling and passion was the music she created and taught for 59 years, beginning at 14 years old and continuing just weeks prior to her passing. Bonnie taught many how to feel and express passion both in music and appreciation of all good things. She shared her kind, sweet nature with countless students and families. She often accompanied ward choirs, played at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and realized her dream of playing the Salt Lake Tabernacle organ. With her life, she created her most abiding love, her family. Her father, mother, beloved brother, Jerold Lazenby, and sister, Georgianna Erickson, along with her daughter, Melinda, proceeded her into the hereafter.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Nowell Leatherbury Morris, whom she married on June 10, 1978. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Surviving Bonnie are her children: Arthur (LouAnn) Funk, Wendy Ricks, Richard (Eryn) Funk, George (Jenny) Morris, Nowell (Christy) Morris, Rebecca Morris. She is also survived by grandchildren: Hailee, Zachary, Zoe, Thomas, Cleo, Olivia, Allyson, Alex, Allen, Makenzie, Ashley, Isaac, Ethan and Bella, Zeke, Zade and Gage; her great grandchild, Ellie Mae; and, her nephew Eric (Amy) Erickson and niece, Amber Erickson.
A viewing will be held Friday, January 31 from 6PM to 8PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial. The family invites her friends and students to play musical tributes to her throughout the evening for her final recital.
Services will be held Saturday, February 1 at 11am at the Canyon Rim Stake Center located at 3051 South 2900 East, SLC, UT 84109. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:45AM to 10:45AM at the same location. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial.

My life has been greatly enriched from knowing Bonnie, Becky, and the rest of the Morris family. It's been 20 years since Bonnie started teaching Deanna piano and I taught Becky flute. I've cherished the opportunities to play duets with Becky over the years, almost always with Bonnie accompanying us. What a great excuse to develop a friendship. And I also have a great deal of admiration for the Morris family for having blended families better than I've ever seen before. Thank you for your loving example. LaRee Farr

I was deeply saddened to see Bonnie had passed away. I will forever be grateful for her patience and skill in teaching me and many others how to play the piano. Playing the piano has brought me great joy and I know she experienced great joy in playing for herself and many others. Her family has been in my prayers. To Bonnie's Family,
We were saddened to learn of the passing of your Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Bonnie fought such a good fight against her illness, and continued to bless others with her talents in the midst of that fight.
May you each be blessed and comforted and strengthened in all of those times when you will miss her so.
We know you will honor her with the lives you live.
With our sincere sympathy, Larry, Terri, and Emily Jensen
