I miss you so much Sonny! I know you are watching over all of us. Remember when you filmed me skateboarding off your porch? I do. You took some sick Pictures too. I won't forget the time we went snowboarding either. :D You recorded me crashing into the snow and then also when I was tearing it up! You always wanted me to be successful and I promise I will be! It was so nice to catch up on our lives at the reunion and I am grateful for the time that I got to spend with you. That night was so much fun just hanging out! I was really impressed with the man that you became after high school! I can see why so many were inspired by you throughout your life! I thought it was amazing that you could walk into the room and in a matter of seconds make new friends.... I am happy to have had the opportunity to know you!

We met both survivors, trying to find light in the darkness that was left for us. You made me feel not so alone, you helped me suppress the pain, and for that I owe you so much. I asked myself today why do the most caring, empathetic, and noble of men leave us so soon? why can't they stay longer? your smile, your kindness trancedned a room, your courage made us feel secure. I know you are in a better place and now finaly at peace, but please the last thing I will ask of you please shine your light down on your survivors every now and again... rest in peace, Jess

My family and I send our heartfelt condolences to our Aunt Ingrid and first cousins Marianne, Roney, Ingrid, Nancy, Randy, Angela and Scotty. Our first cousin Brent Feller gave us the sad news this evening.
It is difficult to believe that Sonny has passed on to be with our Father in Heaven. He joins Aunt Ruth and our Uncle.
I am sorry that I did not take more time with my cousin Sonny. I remember his smile and warmth on the occasions that I was able to see him on my visits to Utah. I remember talking to him about his travels and his desire to join us on our trips to visit our family in Germany.
My mother Ingrid Johnson (nee Suess) will soon join her nephew Sonny with our Savior and Father in Heaven. She is dying of pancreatic cancer in Chicago.

Sonny I remember all the nights at Liquid Joes just hanging out talking about work and school since you were the one that encouraged me to go ahead with my Criminal Justice Degree at WSU. You were a popular man there. You made me laugh and smile so many times when I was having a bad day and even on good days - you were a great friend. All the times we came over to your house and hung out till the wee hours in the morning - good memories. Although it's been a few years since I have seen you, you were never forgotten and you never will be. Rest in peace Sonny.

Well here we are Sonny saying goodbye again...much differently than the last time we worked together or talked on the phone. I remember so many things about you. We met as kids and had the same motorcycles together and snuck out and rode until the early hours of the morning. Then you surprised all of us with your determination in learning and growing. You went to school and went further than most will with your education and earned the respect of many. Then finally after all these years we finally got to work together. I remember us laughing about our pasts and the irony of where we were and how things turned out for us. Who would've thought?? You were a great friend to many and a great Police Officer. You went the extra mile to help some people and never got recognized for it...why??? Because that's the type of great person you are!!! I'm so sorry you left us. I'll miss the late night phone calls we shared. I pray for your family that they know the awesome person you were and that you are in a good place now. You are and will be very missed and remembered. So many of us look forward to seeing your "Sonny" face again someday!! 10-42 J50!!!

Sonny,
I can't even put into words at this time how much you mean to me, especially during the past 3 years. You're love and constant care were always there for me at anytime I needed it day and night!
There were many times that you saved me from taking my life, Sonny! I was suicidal, and you always said to call you when I needed to talk to someone! I don't know of anyone now that will be able to fill that deep void now that I will have!
When you came back on your bike early from Sturgis back in August just to see me, I was as happy as I had honestly been in many years! I was absolutely speechless when I saw that you sacrificed special for me! I will never forget this sacrifice that you made to come to the Ben Lomond 20th class reunion!!
Life for me was worth living, because you were there with me!!! You gave me everything so that I could be touched by you in my most dark hours!!
God speed, Sonny Ricks!! Sure wish that I could have formally said, "Goodbye, my dearest angel!!" Until we meet again!!
I want the family especially to know that Sonny literally saved my life, and that I am alive today able to write this, because of Sonny!!
Love you very much, dearest friend, and I will miss you deeply...more than words can express!!

We share in the feeling of broken hearts with the emptiness of not having Sonny to visit, call, text, or just think of him during the day without that feeling of seeing him again some day. Please feel free to call any of us when the moments get too unbearable. I will miss stopping by to see Sonny after visiting Cali, and hate going back on the freeway instead of down Imperial Street to gaze at that memorable house he fixed up and kept so well. It will always stand as a memorial to him and everything immaculate that he did...his marriage, his job, his love for others, and the list goes on and on. May you live with pride in your hearts for Sonny...always. Look forward to seeing him again. It is a promise.

Sonny and Family: It will always seem so surreal that Sonny is not there to text and call, and drop by to see anymore. We will miss him SO much and wish all of you strength at this time to face the aftermath of lonliness we all will feel with him gone way too soon. I checked on him every time I passed his house after visiting Cali. What an emptiness this will feel like going back home on the freeway. So many memories of Sonny's hard work on his home and the immaculate way he did everything. Our hearts, with yours, are very broken.
