Arnold Paulsen Obituary

1916 ~ 2013
Cottonwood Heights, UT-Arnold Christian Paulsen, age 97, passed away at home in Salt Lake City on June 28, 2013. He was born February 2, 1916, in Springfield, Idaho to Mary Glad and Erling Paulsen. He married Goldie Marie Chatterton in 1940. She died in 1986.
Arnold served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. On September 2, 1945, in Tokyo Bay, he witnessed the signing of the Instrument of Surrender between the Japanese Foreign Minister and General Douglas MacArthur. Arnold was on a ship escorting the USS Missouri and watched the signing through binoculars. He aided in evacuating POWs from Japan. He was a homebuilding contractor and built beautiful custom homes. His many interests included fishing, skiing, square dancing, golf, pool and Bridge. He volunteered at local Senior Centers, building benches and shelves.
He is survived by: his children, Adele (Homer El Ray) Whitlock, Maureen (Thomas) Anderton, Patti Huntsman, Jane (Randy) Tanski, Arnie, Ann (Bill) Freeman, Larry (Sue); sister, Eleanor Kase. His three generations of grandchildren total 81. He is also survived by his sweetheart Alexandra Eframo. The family would like to thank Alexandra for her loving care. We also thank the staff of Caregiver Support Group.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the mortuary.

The spirt of Arnold Paulson still lives on. Sharing memories today with his friend and companion Alexandra Eframo, he was truly a gentle and amazing man. Rest In Peace Arnold.

Arnold was my friend. We met at square dancing almost 20 years ago. He was always so happy to see me and made me feel very special. I will miss my dear friend and will always cherish our time together.
