Danny Salinas Obituary

SALINAS
Danny J. Salinas was born October 18, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas to Dan and Esther Salinas. He attended school at St. Gregory Catholic School and Churchill High School. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BBA in Personnel Management. He received his MBA with Honors from the University of the Incarnate Word. Danny enjoyed riding his 57 Chevy and red convertible in the hill country, fly fishing, rock and roll and traveling. He loved Amsterdam, Naples, Mexico and Paris but his favorite places were Yosemite Park and Sonoma Valley in California. He led a successful career in Human Resources where he had the opportunity to touch many people's lives. He was a Senior Director in Human Resources at Taco Cabana, where he formed lasting friendships. He was an adjunct professor of the Graduate School of Business at the St. Mary's University. He also served on the Alamo Workforce Development Board, receiving several recognitions for his dedication and service. Danny was a lover of life and the great outdoors. He always looked forward to a hunting or fishing trip in Texas, and liked nothing more than to go camping in the Hill Country with a lake or river nearby. His best times were at family cook-outs, where he enjoyed barbequing for his friends and family. As much as he enjoyed tinkering with his old Chevy or taking a drive on a Sunday afternoon, his fondest memories were of family outings to California especially to San Francisco and Yosemite. Danny leaves behind his loving wife, Tere Dresner-Salinas, daughters Vanessa Salinas, Danielle Rodriguez and husband Edward Rodriguez, step-son Jason Dresner, granddaughter Gianna Salinas, brother Louis Salinas & his wife Maria P. Salinas, sister Diane Salinas, his mamita Teresita Martin, sister-in law Lilia Martin and numerous nephews, nieces, his friend and neighbor Alberto Magnon and numerous other friends. The family thanks his devoted doctor Dr. Anthony Tolcher and the START team, his guardian angel on earth RN Buddy Mathews, Dr. Morton S. Kahlenberg for all their care, concern and compassion. Donations can be made to the START Foundation (www.StartTheCure.com). Services will be held at the Sunset North Funeral Home on 910 North Loop 1604 East. A rosary will begin at 7:00 pm on Monday, May 4th, and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at 11:00 am. "Please visit www.mem.com for Danny's online memorial."

Not sure what to say?

This is the prayer that Danny Salinas' family selected for his service.
"Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond's glint on snow, I am the sunlight on ripening grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am in the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circle flight; I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there. I did not die."
Danny was my partner, husband and best friend. He filled my life with his presence. Danny continues to live in my heart, mind and soul although every part of me aches for his touch, a kiss, a smile...
I try to find comfort in the prayer we selected. Thank you God for giving us Danny.

Tere and Family Members,

Danny was my best friend as well as my brother. There was nothing that I could not share with him, no matter how insignificant it may have seemed. He was always willing to listen and to talk and for that I will truly miss him. He will always be in my heart and my memories until I leave God's earth. May he rest in eternal peace.

I worked with Danny for several years at Taco Cabana and considered him a friend. He was funny and outgoing, but, most of all, he spoke from the heart. You always knew where you stood with Danny and he will be greatly missed. Know that his pain has ended and he's in Paradise with Christ. Keep that in your heart and remember him always, as I will.

Tere,

Danny's passing weighs very heavily on my heart. Danny came into my life as a friend and a mentor shortly after my own father's passing and he was a great figure of strength to me. When I last saw Danny he looked great and I was happy to hear that he was winning his battle. Danny will be remembered for the great things that he did and for the great accomplishments that he made in his time on God's Earth. He will have an equally positive effect in God's Heaven.

Danny was a lovely and very caring person. I am very blessed to have known him and to have worked with him at Taco Cabana. He provided moral support during trying times and a sense of humor to lighten things up. I last saw Danny at the Harlingen airport in May of '08. We sat together on the plane and he updated me on his condition. He was still fighting his illness and was an inspiration as he was still so hopeful. I feel very fortuante to have had this time with Danny and know he is happy, in a lovely place fishing, listening to rock and roll and sharing his sense of humor with others. Regards to his wife Tere, and family. With loving memories...
