Nolen Vargas Obituary
Funeral arrangements are complete at Zoeller Funeral Home for Nolen Paul Vargas of New Braunfels. He passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the age of 18. Nolen was born October 15, 1992 in Austin, Texas and recently graduated from Canyon High School in New Braunfels. He was scheduled to attend Texas State University in the fall of 2011. Nolen was a student Athlete in the sports of Cross Country and Track. He will be missed by all he touched and his smile was priceless. Nolen is survived by his parents, Leonardo Paul Vargas and Joyce Penny Vargas of New Braunfels; sisters, Crystal Nicole Vargas, Amelia "Mia" Anne Schmidt, Erika Leigh Vargas and Gabrielle Racquelle Vargas all of New Braunfels; grandfather, Leon Vargas of Temple, Texas; grandmother, Amelia Valdez of Weir, Texas; step-grandfather, Jesse Valdez of Weir, Texas; grandmother, Elvira Wiggins of Lexa, Arkansas; Uncles, LeRoy Vargas of Temple, Texas, Hugh Wiggins of Lexa, Arkansas, Ray Wiggins of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jimmy Wiggins of Missouri, Roy Trevino of Pendleton, Texas, Rodney Grisham of Rogersville, Alabama; Aunts, Yolanda Trevino of Pendleton, Texas, Sandy Vargas of Temple, Texas, Vanessa Vargas of Temple, Texas, Ruth Routh of Beebe, Arkansas, Sue Grisham of Rogersville, Alabama, Sharri Wiggins of Lexa, Arkansas and Lori Wiggins of Florida; nephew, Casin Michael Schmidt of New Braunfels, brother in law, Clint Schmidt of New Braunfels. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 5 pm until 9 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home with a time for sharing the life story of Nolen to begin at 7 pm Tuesday. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 2 pm at Oakwood Baptist Church with burial to follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Although I did not know Nolen well, I did have the chance to cross paths with him at Canyon High School. He was always courteous and respectful and that smile would brighten a room. Dear Vargas family,
I don't have the words to express my complete sorrow for the loss of such a beautiful young man. Nolen was a student in my sophomore English class during the first full year that I taught at Canyon High School. He was the first student I ever had that spoke about being a Christian in front of others, and it always stuck with me - how easily and beautifully he shared his faith. His amazing smile could make a bad day turn good. My favorite memory about Nolen is that I got a hug from him every single day. Even his junior year when he was in a different English class, he would come by my room and check in with me between classes, and I would get my hug. Most often, he would try to sneak up on me when I wasn't expecting him. He loved to surprise me. You truly had a precious, precious boy. His loss is all of our loss, but knowing him and holding his memory is a blessing, and I feel privileged to have known him. Thank you so much for sharing him with us for that short time, and know that he will NEVER be forgotten.

No Words can ease the pain, we are sure you will miss your wonderful Son, just as much as we miss our Grandson, Joseph Armendariz. Nolen and Joseph were friends and played ball together at Canyon High School. No doubt Joseph was probably one of the first to stand at Heaven's Gate ready to embrace and welcome his friend Nolen HOME. God loved them so much that He prepared a wonderful place called Heaven, calling them to spend eternity with Him. Now, even in the midst of our grief, there's hope towards the glorious future that awaits us to join them for all eternity. Dear Vargas family,
Words can not express the sorrow I have your family. I met Nolen during the Christmas break when he came by to talk to Sidney. They were standing outside talking since I was not home. They were so cold! I want you to know which I am sure you already knew this but your son was always respectful, kind and the perfect gentleman to my daughter. We had the pleasure of sharing a special occasion this year….prom. They were so cute deciding on flowers, he even let her have rhinestones….but his words were “just not the pedal one”. I will cherish that afternoon always as we took pictures of these young adults sharing a happy time in their life. You and your family our in thoughts and prayers. As I reflect on Nolen I recall when he was part of Cheryl's life and the laughter they shared together; the sorrow too, but mostly the smiles and laughter. Thank you for allowing him to spend time with her as you did.
