Dr. Leoncio Garza Valdes saved my life in 1975 when I was 5 years old. He was the one who diagnosed me with a rare disease at the time, and even now. He traveled to Monterrey, Mexico, exclusively to treat my case. I am deeply grateful for his professionalism and immense humanity. Today, I am also a faithful admirer of his research work with the Shroud of Turin. I fervently hope that he is now enjoying the presence of God at his side. I know this condolence is late, but my appreciation, gratitude, and admiration are sincere and present. I have lived a beautiful and plenty life thanks to you. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Dr. Garza was my three children's doctor for a number of years. One of the best people I ever knew. The first time I met him, he gave me his home number. That was unheard of at the time, but I was so grateful, because my two daughters had asthma and croup severely. When I called numerous times late in the night, he answered like it was the middle of the day with a happy voice. Coached me through every time. And was never wrong about anything. He was marvelous with children. I will never forget him. He was exceedingly kind and gentle. His reward in heaven will be great, because he did so much for others. I can just see him entering in his white coat with his small bible tucked in the pocket. Rest in Peace friend, and thank you.

In remembrance of my PRIMO Tony, I will always remember your words of wisdom and encouragement that have guided me throughout the years. One memory that I have treasured is that you introduced me to adding a liqueur to vanilla ice cream which enhanced the flavor of the ice cream and made for a great ice cream treat. Rest in peace. I did not know Dr. Garza-Valdes, but I would just like to express my gratitude that this man contributed so much to humanity by his study of the Shroud of Turin and trying to prove its authenticity. The debate still rages on, but we owe a lot of thanks to that generation of scientists who were brave enough to investigate the Shroud and left us with much to consider. I know he is now in the presence of the Savior whose image he studied many hundreds of hours.

I am very saddened to learn that DR. Garza-Valdes passed away. He was a very knowledgeable and kind man who always recalled where he came from which was from humble beginnings. He had a passion for life,a devoted family man and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Tony gave me copy of his book, The DNA of God (The Shourd of Tourin) which I cherishish dearly. He was an excellent physician with a beautiful bed side manner. He took care of all of my three children and even Baptized my oldest son Andrew.
I can piture him now talking to God and saying I knew that I could prove that the Shroud was authentic.
My most heartfelt condolences to the family.
May perpetual light shine upon Primo Tony and may he rest in peace.

For many years I worked on the same floor and had the parking spot right next to Dr. Garza. Fortunately this equated to many conversations from which he radiated his wealth of knowledge and sense of humor. I will never forget the laughter from him pulling his Shroud of Turin book from me to autograph it just because I took the time to buy and read it. I will always remember Dr. Garza as an unassuming man with a beautiful wife who both treated me with the upmost respect. Mrs. Garza, may you find peace in knowing what a glorius kingdom Dr. Garza now calls home.

I was very saddened to read about the passing of Dr. Leoncio Garza-Valdes. In the 1980s, he took several courses in archeology when I taught at UTSA. He became quite involved in the use of archeometry (application of chemistry, microscopy, etc.) to archaeology -- and
he even personally sponsored and helped organize a major conference on
this type of research at UTSA. After I moved to UT-Austin in 1987, I saw Leoncio only a few times. As always, he was a gentleman, well spoken, and a great sense of humor. During the 1990s
and into the 2000s, I read with interest his research on the Shroud of Turin, which generated an international
reputation for Leoncio. He also worked
with Prof. Brian Stross at UT Austin on a variety of Maya research projects. He was a good friend, and I will miss him. My sympathies to his wife and children.

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Garzas wife and family. Dr. Garza was my daughters pediatrician as a newborn, sometimes opening his office just to see her when she was very ill. I will never forget his kindness. May he rest in peace.

I knew Dr. Garza for several years and found him a very intelligent and interesting person. I learned many things from the good doctor about archaelogy, the Church, history and much more.
He took care of our kids and was a good friend throughout. We will always have the utmost respect for him and his memory.
Our deepest sympathy to his wife and children.
